Cyprus offers the tourists a wide array of sightseeing opportunities. It has a distinct antique flavour, which gives the travellers a possibility to deep in the local history, visiting the oldest Neolithic settlement on the island, Stavrovouni Monastery, and the famous church of Angeloktisti. Nor far from Larnaca the mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke is situated. It is a holy place for the pilgrims from the Moslem world. Do not waste time and visit Limassol - the chief port and the second largest city of the Republic of Cyprus. A great number of sights has made it a chief tourist centre. Limassol is a city of festivals and carnivals. In September it hosts the Wine Festival, while in February it invites the tourists to take part in a masked show with dances and songs. Limassol area is famous for its beautiful beaches, suggesting the vacationers a wide choice of water sports and recreational activities. Traveling west of Limassol you can explore the Kolossi Castle, a medieval fortress with ancient sugar factory. Nearby the archaeological site of Kourion (ancient city-kingdom) is situated. According to Greek mythology Paphos is the birthplace of Aphrodite. Due to rich cultural and natural treasures Paphos is listed UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Picturesque harbour, innumerable ancient sites, such as the Odeon theatre, – all these the tourists can see, coming to Paphos. The tourists should for sure visit Chrysochou Bay and well known Baths of Aphrodite, located not far from the little town of Polis.
